About UMATS

UMATS, the University System of Maryland Academic Telecommunications System, provides advanced telecommunications services to institutions throughout the Univeristy System of Maryland and beyond to other colleges and universities throughout the state.

UMATS connects University System of Maryland members, other Maryland state universities, community colleges, and private institutions to each other, the Internet, and Internet2, as well as access to teleconferencing and distance learning facilities, over facilities ranging from 1.5Mbps to 155Mbps leased circuits to high speed Ethernet over UMATS' own fiber infrastructure. With a 10 Gbps DWDM core that can easily scale much higher and redundant connectivity to multiple upstream providers in multiple locations, UMATS strives to provide ample connectivity for its members in an extremely reliable and cost-effective manner.

UMATS oversight and governance is provided by the University System of Maryland Telecommunications Council (USMTC). For more information on UMATS and the USMTC, please check the links on the left under USMTC Information.

Recent News
Conference Time Entry Update
Time entry for classes/conferences has been updated.  If you don't have all the information filled out, the page will alert you instead of submitting your entry and complaining afterward.  Also, the default for the conference end time information is now "Pick One" instead of "Duration," and if you don't pick one, you'll get an alert.
New Gatekeeper
We have a new gatekeeper in place for the new semester.  Most users should not notice any difference.  If you experience gatekeeper-related issues (your system says it cannot register, or calls are not being completed) please let us know immediately.
