Baltimore Education & Research Network (BERnet)
The Consortium includes UMATS, University of Maryland, Baltimore ( UMB), the University of Maryland, Baltimore County ( UMBC), Morgan State University ( MSU), SAILOR, the Mid-Atlantic Crossroads ( MAX), the Johns Hopkins University ( JHU), and the State of Maryland's networkMaryland. UMATS Partnership with Western Maryland, Frostburg State University, the State of Maryland and the City of Hagerstown
UMATS has worked closely with the State bartering for various services in all regions of Maryland. This partnership will support a connection between Frostburg State University (FSU), Hagerstown Center (HC) and University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). The mission of this nonprofit association is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology. Membership is open to institutions of higher education, corporations serving the higher education information technology market, and other related associations and organizations.
A part of Educause that gives member organizations a stronger voice for promoting the development of advanced networking in higher education.
This initiative brings together Internet2 member institutions, primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, libraries, and museums to get new technologies applications, middleware, and content of innovators, across all educational sectors in the United States, as quickly and as connectedly as possible.

MEETING & PUBLICATIONS
The meeting was held February 4-5, 2004, in Tempe, Arizona. It focused on state public sector research and education networks.
An overview of BERnet, whose purpose is to education and research institutions in the Baltimore area and to those interested in collaborating on the development and support of a major Point of Presence (POP) in the City of Baltimore.
State Broadband Summit
